DTPW bus operators and technicians gear up for 2024 Bus Roadeo at Zoo Miami

Miami, Florida – The Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) is gearing up for its annual Bus Roadeo, an event that puts the spotlight on the exceptional abilities of its bus operators and maintenance technicians. The event is scheduled to take place at Zoo Miami on Friday, February 16th, and Saturday, February 17th, 2024. This year’s event promises to be a thrilling display of skill, showcasing DTPW staff’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and excellence in public service.

Competition Details and Highlights

A total of 24 operators and 13 maintenance technicians have registered to participate in this year’s challenge, each demonstrating their expertise in their respective fields. Bus operators will navigate through a challenging obstacle course designed to replicate scenarios encountered in daily bus operations. Meanwhile, maintenance technicians will be tested on their knowledge and skills across various maintenance disciplines, ensuring their vehicles meet the highest standards of operational safety and reliability.

The event will conclude on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., when awards will be handed out to the top performers. The winners of the bus technician and driving competitions will form the DTPW Roadeo team, which will represent the department at the state competition in Jacksonville on April 19 and 20.

A Tradition of Excellence

DTPW’s participation in Bus Roadeo competitions is a long-standing tradition. Last year, Telisa Ruan made history as the first female operator to win the top prize at the Roadeo. Her achievements included being named rookie of the year and securing second place at the state competition.

For those interested in attending the award ceremony, it’s important to note that space is limited. Guests and media are encouraged to contact Calvin Sykes at calvin.sykes@miamidade.gov to secure their attendance.
