DeSantis Sends Additional State Resources

Governor Ron DeSantis last week ordered additional state resources for the Keys and southern waters of the state of Florida in response to the potential influx of illegal immigrants from Haiti. “For quite some time, the State of Florida has been dedicating significant resources to combating illegal vessels coming to Florida from countries such as Haiti,” Governor DeSantis said.

Launch of Operation Vigilant Sentry

The State of Florida also launched “Operation Vigilant Sentry,” aimed at preventing all Haitians fleeing Haiti from making landfall and finding refuge in Florida, with 250 men deployed, more than half of whom belong to the Florida State Guard.

Air DeSantis May Soon Resume

The initiative, known as “Air DeSantis,” may soon resume, impacting Haitian refugees aiming to find sanctuary in the Sunshine State. DeSantis explicitly mentioned that the state’s transportation program, aimed at relocating these individuals, is set to become operational once again. This program could potentially transport undocumented immigrants directly from their arrival points in the Florida Keys to locations in New England, such as Martha’s Vineyard.

Florida Senators Seek Plan From the Government

U.S. Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, both from Florida, have taken a decisive stand, reaching out directly to President Joe Biden. Their concerns are rooted in the unfolding humanitarian and security crisis in Haiti and its potential repercussions for American national security, particularly highlighting the impact on Florida, a state with a significant Haitian-American population.

A Call for Clarity and Action

In their letter, Senators Scott and Rubio express deep concern over the administration’s current approach to immigration and national security in light of the Haitian crisis. They criticize the Biden administration for what they perceive as lax vetting processes for immigrants, accompanied by generous provision of services at the expense of U.S. taxpayers.

Highlighting the deep connections between Florida’s residents and the Haitian community, the senators underscore the urgency of the situation, stating, “The violence and unrest in Haiti is extremely alarming. Florida is home to a vibrant community of Haitian-Americans, and we join them in praying for their loved ones and the Haitian people, and for an immediate return to peace and lawful order.” This sentiment reflects a broader concern for the welfare of the Haitian people as well as the security and well-being of American citizens.

Moreover, Scott and Rubio call for targeted American assistance and international support for Haiti, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach that offers aid without compromising U.S. national security. They warn against the potential dangers posed by unchecked immigration, especially in light of reports of gang-related jailbreaks in Haiti leading to the release of numerous criminals.

This letter represents a significant appeal for transparency, accountability, and a reassessment of the U.S. strategy towards Haiti, advocating for measures that protect both American interests and the humanitarian needs of the Haitian people.
