“Stand Up for Innocence” comedy show aims to raise awareness and funds

Plantation, Florida – American Heritage Schools’ Pre-Law Society is set to host the annual “Stand Up for Innocence” comedy event on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the school’s Broward Campus. This special event brings together comedy and community support, aiming to raise funds for The Innocence Project of Florida, a dedicated nonprofit organization that works tirelessly to exonerate innocent prisoners in Florida and assist them in rebuilding their lives.

A Night of Comedy for a Cause

The “Stand Up for Innocence” event promises an evening filled with humor and laughter, all in the service of a noble cause. The show will be hosted by Karen Bergreen, a multifaceted talent known for her standup comedy, writing, and legal background. Bergreen, a regular on Comedy Central, is also a published novelist and former lawyer. Her diverse experiences bring a unique flavor to her comedic performances, often featured on TV and in New York City comedy clubs.

A Lineup of Renowned Comedians

The event will kick off with Andy Pitz, an experienced comedian with over two decades in standup comedy. Pitz, known for his appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” will set the stage with his engaging humor. Following him is the headliner of the evening, Owen Smith. Smith, a celebrated comedian, writer, and actor, has made notable appearances on “Conan and Colbert.” His impressive writing credits include works for popular shows such as ABC’s “Black•ish,” “Are We There Yet” on TBS, and “Everybody Hates Chris.”

The proceeds from this laughter-filled evening will be channeled to support The Innocence Project of Florida. This organization’s mission is to identify and free innocent individuals from prison, providing them with litigation support and services at no cost.
