Since 2019, the state of Florida has invested over $4 billion in initiatives to increase teacher salaries, effectively raising starting pay by nearly $10,000. Prior to Governor DeSantis’s administration, there was no dedicated, recurring funding stream for teacher salary increases. This changed dramatically in 2020 with the establishment of the Teacher Salary Increase Allocation in the state budget, which started at $500 million and has now expanded to more than $1.25 billion for the upcoming fiscal year.
