Fort Lauderdale encourages holiday tree recycling this January

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale is encouraging residents not to discard their holiday trees but to recycle them instead this holiday season. The city has announced a dedicated program for this purpose, running from January 1, 2024, to January 20, 2024. This initiative offers an environmentally friendly way to dispose of Christmas trees after the holiday celebrations.

Residents can participate by placing their live Christmas trees curbside on their scheduled yard waste day. However, it’s important to prepare the trees correctly before disposal. All decorations, including lights, ornaments, and tinsel, must be removed. It’s important to note that trees sprayed with flocking, or artificial snow, are not eligible for recycling. Also, trees should not be placed in bags for collection.

This program exclusively accepts natural trees. Once collected, these trees will be transported to a yard waste recycling facility. By participating in this program, residents of Fort Lauderdale are contributing to a more sustainable community and helping to preserve the environment for future generations.
