For many attendees, the expo is designed to be more than a traditional job fair.
Organizers say visitors will be able to learn how to overcome barriers to changing careers, explore unique and emerging career paths, identify certifications or degrees that can help close skill gaps, and better plan for the future.
Florida Atlantic University is also offering a $100 scholarship for a Hospitality Certification, giving participants another possible step toward entering or advancing in the field.
The industries represented stretch widely across South Florida’s workforce.
They include maritime support and marine terminals, maritime and fuel transportation, engineering and construction, county and federal government, law enforcement and security services, hospitality, aviation, environmental services, parking management and education.
A long list of participating organizations is expected, including Allied Universal Security, American Airlines, Atlantic Technical College, Balearia Caribbean Fast Ferry, Broward County Convention Center, Broward County Human Resources Division, Broward Sheriff’s Office, CareerSource Broward, Homeland Security/U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Florida Atlantic University, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, JetBlue, Omni Hotels & Resorts, Port Everglades Association, Port Everglades Human Resources Division, Seaboard Marine Transportation, United Airlines, U.S. Coast Guard Recruiting Office Miami, Women Offshore Foundation and many others.
Parking will be free for attendees. Those arriving by car must tell the parking attendant they are going to the “Career Fair” to receive free parking.
Broward County Transit will also provide free, continuous bus service from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those planning to attend.
Pick-up locations include Miramar Town Center, CareerSource Broward’s North, Central and South centers, and Lauderhill Transit Center. Buses will begin leaving all assigned locations at 8 a.m., with inbound trips running to the Broward County Convention Center as needed and return service continuing until 2 p.m.
Anyone who wants to use the free bus service must pre-register to reserve a seat. During registration, riders will need to provide their full name and selected pick-up location. Seating is first come, first served, so early registration is encouraged.
