Broward County High Schools among nation’s best in U.S. News & World Report rankings


Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Thirteen Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) high schools have been named among the top public high schools in the nation, according to the annual U.S. News & World Report rankings.

Leading the way, Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy, Pompano Beach High School, and McFatter Technical High School ranked in the top 2.5% of all schools across the country, while Atlantic Technical High School and Cypress Bay High School secured spots in the top 5%. These five schools are also recognized among the top 5% in Florida, with Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy securing the #2 spot in the state.

Superintendent Praises BCPS Community Effort

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for the entire BCPS community,” remarked BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “Our students, teachers, administrators, and staff have worked incredibly hard to achieve this level of excellence, and I am incredibly proud of their dedication. To be ranked among the top high schools in the nation is a testament to the exceptional quality of education we provide in Broward County.”

How U.S. News & World Report Evaluated Schools

The rankings evaluated more than 25,000 public high schools across the U.S., with over 17,600 receiving rankings based on six key factors:

  • College readiness (30%)
  • State assessment proficiency (20%)
  • College curriculum breadth (10%)
  • Underserved student performance (10%)
  • Graduation rate (10%)

The 13 BCPS high schools ranked among the top 25% in the nation:

  • Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy: State Rank: 2, National Rank: 41
  • Pompano Beach High School: State Rank: 25, National Rank: 270
  • William T. McFatter Technical High School: State Rank: 32, National Rank: 397
  • Atlantic Technical High School: State Rank: 40, National Rank: 634
  • Cypress Bay High School: State Rank: 47, National Rank: 743
  • Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School: State Rank: 76, National Rank: 1,185
  • Broward Virtual School: State Rank: 109, National Rank: 1,632
