Tamarac, Florida – On Wednesday, December 11, the Tamarac City Commission unanimously named District 4 Commissioner Dr. Kicia Daniel as the Vice Mayor of the city. For Tamarac, this appointment marks a historic occasion as the first time an African American woman has occupied the post since the city’s founding 61 years ago.

Originally joining the Tamarac City Commission in November 2022, Dr. Daniel has rapidly established herself as a committed and ambitious leader. Her new role as Vice Mayor amplifies her commitment to serving the community, focusing on the needs of families, businesses, and constituents throughout Tamarac.

“I am honored to step into the role of Vice Mayor of Tamarac,” said Dr. Daniel. “I will continue to work alongside my fellow elected officials and residents to meet the needs of Tamarac families, businesses and constituents.”

Apart from her responsibilities on the commission, Dr. Daniel is a Director on the 2024–2025 Broward League of Cities Board of Directors, therefore highlighting her impact and commitment to public service across Broward County. Her professional position as a school principal in the Broward County Public Schools, where she has been crucial in creating instructional policies and student experiences, testifies further about her leadership abilities.

Dr. Daniel has an equally outstanding educational background than her public service career. Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University awarded her a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education; Nova Southeastern University awarded a Master and Doctor of Education in Leadership. Her academic and career paths show her strong commitment to leadership and education—qualities absolutely vital for her in her capacity as Vice Mayor.

This historic nomination marks a step toward more diversity and representation in Tamarac’s municipal government in addition as it reflects Dr. Daniel’s unique successes and abilities. Her position as Vice Mayor is supposed to bring fresh ideas and unique perspectives to the table, therefore promoting development and community involvement in interesting new directions.
