Pompano Beach, Florida – A sequence of violent events occurred late Wednesday night, March 6, in Pompano Beach. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigating a deputy-involved shooting that has left two people dead, including the suspect.

The events began to unfold at around 11:27 p.m., when deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 3200 block of West Copans Road after receiving reports of a shooting. Information received en route indicated that an adult male had been shot, and there was a possibility that the armed individual responsible was still nearby. Upon arrival, deputies encountered the armed suspect.
The encounter escalated quickly, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The suspect, a 59-year-old male whose name is being withheld until his family is notified, fired at the deputies, prompting them to return fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation revealed that prior to the deputies’ arrival, the suspect had fatally shot a 42-year-old co-worker. The identity of the victim is also being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

Responding to the scene were detectives from BSO’s Crime Scene, Homicide, and Internal Affairs units to investigate the initial homicide. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement took over the investigation of the deputy-involved shooting. Following BSO policy, the three deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative assignment as the investigation continues.
