Tallahassee, Florida – Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Davis delivered a motivational speech at Madison County High School earlier this week to approximately 200 freshmen and sophomores, urging them to set high aspirations, work diligently, and dream big. His central message highlighted the importance of applying for the Bright Futures Scholarship, a valuable resource for students wishing to extend their education beyond high school.
Encouraging Hard Work and Big Dreams
During his address, Secretary Davis emphasized the significance of hard work and seizing opportunities like the Bright Futures Scholarship. “Keep Florida’s Future Bright” is the driving theme of his and Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr.’s current statewide tour.
This initiative seeks to raise awareness among students about the benefits of the Bright Futures Scholarship Program and encourage them to apply.
“Keep Florida’s Future Bright” is not just a slogan but a comprehensive effort to boost the number of applications and awards given under the scholarship program. Since its establishment by the Florida Legislature in 1997, the program has been primarily funded by the Florida Lottery.

It has provided over $8 billion in funding, helping nearly one million students pursue higher education at Florida’s universities, colleges, as well as trade and vocational schools.
Commitment to Education
“The Florida Lottery recognizes the significant role of education in our communities,” said Secretary Davis. “Teaming up with Governor DeSantis and the Florida Department of Education to promote the ‘Keep Florida’s Future Bright’ initiative demonstrates our commitment to ensuring every student in Florida has the opportunity to pursue a Bright Futures scholarship.”
To make information and resources readily available, the initiative has launched a centralized portal. This one-stop shop offers a wide range of tools, including frequently asked questions, checklists, application support, and test preparation resources.
