Neptune Beach, Florida – Christmas Day 2023 is set to reveal more than just holiday cheer in Florida. It is the day when the identity of the winner of the record $1.602 billion Mega Millions jackpot might be disclosed, in accordance with state law. The jackpot-winning ticket was purchased on August 8 at Publix, located at 630 Atlantic Boulevard in Neptune Beach. This winning ticket broke the previous record of $1.537 billion, claimed in South Carolina on October 23, 2018.

The winner, who stepped forward to claim the prize in September, initially remained anonymous due to Florida’s specific lottery laws. Under the statute “EXEMPT PURSUANT TO F.S. 24.1051,” their identity was protected. However, under this law, the confidentiality clause no longer applies after 90 days, meaning that as of December 25, the winner’s name is no longer a secret and the Florida Lottery may reveal their name.

The winner chose the cash option and received $783 million. Publix was also rewarded, earning a $100,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket. The winning numbers at this draw were 13, 19, 20, 32, and 33, with Mega Ball 14 and a 2X Megaplier.

Florida’s law, effective May 25, 2022, ensures winners claiming prizes over $250,000 can keep their names confidential for a limited period. Now, as the law’s confidentiality clause expires, the public eagerly awaits the revelation of the individual behind the record-breaking win.
