Miami-Dade County breaks ground on Wellspring Apartments to provide affordable housing for seniors in Opa-locka

Opa-locka, Florida – Today at 10 a.m., Miami-Dade County officials will break ground on Wellspring Apartments, a new senior affordable housing project in Opa-locka. The ceremony, hosted by Miami-Dade County’s Department of Public Housing and Community Development and Integral Florida, marked a significant step in providing much-needed housing for seniors aged 62 and older.

Transformative Housing for Seniors

Located at 14701 NW 27 Avenue, the Wellspring Apartments project will deliver 99 affordable units in District 1, including seven studios, 81 one-bedroom units, and 11 two-bedroom units.

Funded by Miami-Dade’s Affordable Housing Trust with $1 million, the development includes 67 units for residents with incomes below 50% of the area median income (AMI) and 32 units for those earning below 60% (AMI).

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Commission Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert lauded the transformative nature of the $33 million project, which will also feature a 44,000-square-foot medical office and wellness center to provide crucial healthcare services to underserved communities.

The Wellspring Apartments groundbreaking symbolizes the county’s dedication to supporting affordable housing and improving the quality of life for seniors in the Opa-locka region. With this development, the county aims to address housing needs while offering essential healthcare services to low-income seniors.
