Public meeting to discuss traffic calming, safety enhancements, and landscaping for NE 15th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – By showing up for a public meeting hosted by the City’s Transportation and Mobility Department, Fort Lauderdale residents have the opportunity to significantly influence the course of NE 15th Avenue. Held at ArtServe, at 1350 East Sunrise Blvd., the meeting is set for Wednesday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m.

This important meeting represents a major turning point in bringing the first vision of the NE 15th Avenue streetscape project from planning to design stage. Covering the distance from Sunrise Boulevard to the South Fork of the Middle River, this project seeks to make the route a safer and more aesthetically pleasant space for every user.

Driven by a grant given last year by the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization, the project’s design calls for various creative traffic calming techniques. These comprise a new crossing at NE 15th Street, elevated crosswalks next to the NE 18th Street roundabout, and raised intersections. Additionally designed between NE 11th Street and NE 13th Street, landscaped medians seek to blend these features with the northern portion of the route.

The meeting will also cover how best to incorporate insightful knowledge gained from the prototype tactical project running between NE 11th Street and NE 13th Street. These insights should direct the design and functional improvements to guarantee the avenue satisfies the demands of the society.

Since it will give residents a forum to express their ideas and help with the planning process, community involvement is strongly encouraged. Participating in the initiative gives residents a special chance to shape decisions that will impact their everyday life as well as the general livability of their neighborhood.
