Broward County offices to close July 4 as community celebrates Independence Day holiday, online services remain operational

Broward County, Florida – Broward County offices across Broward will shut their doors on Friday, July 4, as the community pauses to celebrate Independence Day. While residents won’t be able to access in-person services at most county-run locations, many resources will still be just a few clicks away online at Broward.org, ensuring people can handle essential needs even while offices take a holiday break.

The county’s 311 Call Center and the Homeless Helpline will both be closed on the Fourth of July. However, the Homeless Helpline will offer limited after-hours support from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and those in need can call 954-563-4357 during those times. Library lovers should note that all branches of the Broward County Library system will be closed for the day, but digital resources—like ebooks, audiobooks, streaming content, and research tools—will remain available around the clock for anyone with an internet connection.

Good news for park enthusiasts: regional and neighborhood parks, along with specialty parks and natural areas, will stay open throughout the holiday, though Deerfield Island Park, Markham Target Range, and administrative offices will be closed. In recognition of Park and Recreation Month, the county has waived the regional park holiday gate fee, although rental fees for shelters and halls will still apply. The Summer Recreation Program will not take place on the holiday.

For those relying on public transportation, Broward County Transit will run on a Sunday/holiday schedule. Transit staff will be stationed at major hubs including the Broward Main Terminal, Lauderhill Transit Center, and Northeast Transit Center to assist riders with trip planning from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Customer service representatives will also be on hand by phone from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 954-357-8400.

Meanwhile, essential services at Port Everglades will continue uninterrupted, with marine operations running 24/7. Although administrative offices for both Port Everglades and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will be closed, airport terminals will function as normal, and airport staff will field calls at 954-359-6100 around the clock. North Perry Airport will follow a similar arrangement with its offices closed, but the facility remaining fully operational.

Animal Care offices will also be closed, but emergencies like animal attacks or injuries should be reported immediately by calling 911. Non-urgent matters can be addressed starting Saturday morning by calling 954-359-1313. Lost or found pets can be reported via the same number.

Other county departments will scale back in-person services, too. The Office of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services will close its administrative offices but continue providing critical services 24/7. The Broward Addiction Recovery Center will remain open for admissions and triage, though outpatient and administrative areas will be closed, and residents are encouraged to schedule appointments where possible. The Nancy J. Cotterman Center will handle crisis intakes and child protection emergencies as usual, even as its administrative offices close for the day.
