Tamarac homeowners can seek up to $85,000 for critical home repairs this September
Tamarac, Florida – For Tamarac homeowners facing a failing roof, aging air conditioner or dangerous electrical problem, September could bring a rare chance to tackle repairs that might otherwise be out of reach.
The city will open applications for its Owner-Occupied Minor Home Repair/Rehabilitation Program at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, offering qualified residents as much as $85,000 in assistance. The application period lasts only through Sept. 14.

The program is designed for owner-occupied homes with health, safety, accessibility or code-related problems. Eligible projects can include roof replacement, HVAC replacement, plumbing and electrical corrections, impact windows or doors and accessibility improvements for elderly residents and households with special needs.
Applications will be accepted online only at Tamarac.gov/HomeRehabilitation. Repairs completed before a homeowner applies are not eligible for reimbursement.
Income is one of the key requirements. Broward County’s 2026 Area Median Income is $102,500, and applicants must fall within limits established by HUD and the program’s funding sources. For households at the 80% AMI level, the maximum annual gross income is $71,000 for one person, $81,150 for two, $91,300 for three and $101,400 for four.
Applicants must live within Tamarac, use the property as their primary homesteaded residence and cannot have another second lien such as a HELOC, PACE loan or Ygrene financing in addition to a first mortgage. Assistance is limited to one time per property owner.
The funding is not a traditional grant paid with no conditions. Assistance is structured as a 15-year, 0% interest deferred-payment second mortgage. Homeowners make no monthly payments if they remain in the property throughout the affordability period, and the loan is forgiven after 15 years. Selling, renting or completing a cash-out refinance during that period can make the full awarded amount due.

Applications are handled on a first-come, first-ready, first-served basis, with priority for elderly and special-needs applicants. Eligibility processing can take up to 90 days, and the Housing Division expects to contact applicants within 30 to 45 days after applications close.
Approved applicants must pay a $35 application fee when signing loan documents. No repair work can begin until eligibility is confirmed, bids are received and required homeowner documents are signed.
