Texas Congresswoman goes hard on Trump, questions the president’s ability to serve
Florida – As the nation struggles with economic uncertainty caused by Trump’s aggressive tariff policies, Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett provided strong criticism of President Donald Trump’s mental capacity to lead in an intense interview Thursday night on MSNBC. Crockett was motivated by Trump’s ongoing rhetorical attacks on former President Joe Biden during the 2024 presidential race, which have sparked more general debates about the mental sharpness of national leaders.
Crockett said she found it hard to believe Trump’s mental capacity had not come under the same degree of examination as Biden once suffered. Her concerns were further amplified by an incident Friday, when Trump, while boarding Air Force One en route to Florida, struggled awkwardly with an umbrella amid windy and rainy conditions. The incident drew mockery and further fueled Crockett’s concerns by spreading rapidly on social media.
“The fact that no one is questioning his mental acuity or fitness to serve is beyond wild to me,” she stated during her conversation with Chris Hayes.
She referenced the derogatory nickname “Sleepy Joe Biden,” used frequently by Trump and his supporters, pointing out that during Biden’s tenure, people didn’t have to worry about dramatic fluctuations in their investments overnight.
Her comments came after a significant stock market decline earlier this month caused by Trump’s proposal of sweeping tariffs on almost all U.S. trading partners. Though the market bounced back somewhat when Trump reversed certain tariffs, consumer confidence remains low.
Crockett underlined the economic stability under Biden’s administration in contrast to the current state, which includes rising prices of daily necessities and electronics under Trump’s authority. She argued that the housing market had been needlessly destabilized by such severe economic policies. Trump, meanwhile, claims that people approve the work of the White House administration.
Trump, in a statement issued aboard Air Force One on Friday night, disclosed he had taken a cognitive test during his yearly physical check at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, adding to the political drama. He claimed the outcomes would be published on Sunday.
“Overall I felt I was in very good shape. Good heart. A good soul. Very good soul,” Trump commented, asserting that he answered all questions correctly on his cognitive test, aiming to draw a contrast with Biden.
“President Trump remains in excellent health, exhibiting robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function,” his doctor, Captain Sean Barbabella, said in a memo on Sunday.
Crockett’s outspoken personality has both increased her popularity and attracted criticism as she claims her presence in the political spheres. Crockett’s controversial approach has confirmed her status as a prominent player inside the Democratic Party from her past comments on Texas Governor Greg Abbott to a fiery confrontation with the Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.
