Weston, Deerfield Beach and Central Broward teams shine at Florida Explorer event
Broward County, Florida – For Broward County’s young law enforcement hopefuls, months of training were tested in moments: a traffic stop, a physical challenge, a precise drill movement and a high-pressure emergency scenario.
Explorers representing Weston, Deerfield Beach and Central Broward returned from the 2026 Florida Association of Police Explorers competition with awards across several demanding categories, earning praise from Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony and highlighting the continued growth of the Broward Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program.
The BSO Department of Law Enforcement Explorers received recognition in drill, traffic stops, the Physical Agility Test, commonly known as PAT, and the Active Assailant competition. Each event required participants to demonstrate discipline, preparation and the ability to apply their training under pressure.
Tony congratulated the teams from the City of Weston, the City of Deerfield Beach and Central Broward for their achievements, describing the participants as future leaders whose results reflected their hard work and dedication.
The competition success also placed attention on the BSO personnel and Explorer advisors who work directly with the platoons. Their instruction helps participants build practical skills while learning about the expectations, responsibilities and challenges connected to a career in law enforcement.
According to BSO, the advisors’ commitment has played an important role in shaping the abilities of the young men and women involved in the program. The latest awards, the agency said, demonstrate both the quality of that training and the Explorer Program’s growing effectiveness across Broward County.
Open to teenagers and young adults between the ages of 14 and 20, the Law Enforcement Explorers Program serves as an early pathway for those interested in public safety careers. Participants receive varied training and exposure designed to give them a clearer understanding of law enforcement work.
The experience goes beyond competition trophies. Explorers are introduced to teamwork, physical readiness, decision-making and structured training while developing knowledge that could support them in future careers.
For the Weston, Deerfield Beach and Central Broward platoons, the 2026 competition provided a statewide stage to show how far that preparation has taken them. Their awards marked a major achievement for the participants, their advisors and the wider BSO Explorer Program.
