Broward County announces government office closures for Presidents’ Day on February 17

Broward County, Florida – Broward County has announced a series of closures and service adjustments in observance of the upcoming Presidents’ Day holiday on Monday, February 17, 2025. Many services will remain available online and through emergency assistance even when several government offices will be closed for the day.

Although county government buildings will not be open, citizens seeking help can still access a range of services online at Broward.org. The Homeless Helpline will provide after-hours assistance from 10 AM to 2 PM, accessible at 954-563-4357 for urgent needs despite the fact that the 311 Call Center will close.

Except from the Nova Southeastern University Alvin Sherman Library, all Broward County Library branches will be closed. Customers are urged to search the catalog, renew items, and access a wealth of free online resources like classes, eBooks, eMagazines, and multimedia content using the comprehensive digital services offered by Broward.org/Library.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find most Broward County regional and neighborhood parks, nature centers, and natural areas open. Notable closures include the Carpenter House/Marine Environmental Education Center, Deerfield Island Park, and the Markham Target Range. Regional parks will apply a $3 holiday gate fee per vehicle. Visitors should immediately contact the relevant facilities for particular program availability and operational hours of partner services including AllGolf and Butterfly World.

Regarding animal welfare, the Broward County Animal Care will close; nonetheless, calling 911 will still provide emergency services for animal attacks or injuries. Non-emergency calls and inquiries about lost pets can be directed to 954-359-1313.

Administrative offices of the Broward County Aviation Department at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and North Perry Airport will also be closed. Airport operations will continue as usual, though, and general inquiries can be handled by customer service available 24 hours a day.

Port Everglades will close its administrative offices as well, although tenant activities and marine operations will go forward uninterrupted. Likewise, all important services will be available around-the-clock despite that the Office of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services will not have administrative offices open.

The Broward Addiction Recovery Center will be open for triage and emergency intakes; walk-in evaluations are recommended to arrive before 6 PM. Residential services will continue, without visitors; only emergency services will be accessible at the Nancy J. Cotterman Center, which manages crises including abuse and violence.

Finally, trash and recycling programs for the Broward Municipal Services District will go forward without interruption. Residents elsewhere are encouraged to confirm collection schedules by consulting local services.

The Broward County Landfill will mark the holiday closure but will reopen normal operations the next day.

During the Presidents’ Day holiday observances, residents and guests are encouraged to make plans in line with the resources and services that are on hand.
