Broward County Public Schools wins major academic distinction for growth and performance in Cambridge programs

Broward County, Florida – In classrooms across Broward County, a quiet transformation has been unfolding. One built on persistence, ambition, and a widening gateway to academic opportunity.
That steady effort has now drawn national attention, as Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) has been recognized as the 2025/26 Cambridge District of the Year in the Large District category.
The honor, awarded by Cambridge International Education, reflects more than a single year of achievement. It captures a broader trajectory, one shaped by expanding access to advanced coursework and delivering consistent academic results.

For BCPS, this is not unfamiliar territory. The district has previously earned the same distinction in the 2017/18 and 2020/21 school years, reinforcing a pattern of sustained performance rather than a one-time milestone.
Each year, Cambridge International selects one large, medium, and small district across the United States that demonstrates exceptional progress in offering Cambridge programs while maintaining strong student outcomes.
This latest recognition is rooted in student performance on Cambridge exams administered during the 2024/25 school year, where results once again placed BCPS among the nation’s top-performing districts.
Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn pointed to the collective effort behind the achievement, emphasizing that the recognition belongs to an entire community.
“This recognition reflects the hard work, dedication and shared commitment of our students, teachers, school leaders and families,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn.
“We are proud to expand access to rigorous Cambridge coursework that prepares our students for success in college, careers and life.”
From students navigating challenging coursework to teachers guiding them through rigorous material, and from school leaders shaping academic pathways to families providing support at home, the district’s success reflects a shared commitment to excellence.
At the center of this recognition is access. Cambridge programs within BCPS open doors to advanced studies, giving students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. For some, these achievements can also serve as a pathway toward qualifying for the Florida Bright Futures scholarship, including the potential for a full-ride award.
The district’s continued investment in these programs signals a long-term vision—one where opportunity is not limited but extended, where preparation for college and careers begins early, and where students are equipped to navigate an increasingly competitive world.
