Coconut Creek, Florida – Broward County Parks and Recreation Division, in collaboration with the Florida Forest Service, is planning a controlled ecological management event known as a prescribed burn.

Essential Fire Management

This burn is set to take place at Tradewinds Park & Stables, located at 3600 W. Sample Rd., Coconut Creek, FL 33073, on Monday, April 29, 2024, weather conditions permitting.

Prescribed burns are a critical management tool used to maintain and enhance the condition of natural ecosystems. This specific burn at Tradewinds Park & Stables will cover approximately two acres.

The primary goals for conducting this burn include increasing biodiversity, improving wildlife habitat, and managing vegetation. These controlled burns help reduce the thick undergrowth, thereby decreasing the risk of catastrophic wildfires.

The operation will be carried out by professionally trained firefighters from the Florida Forest Service, working closely with Broward County Parks staff.

The burn is scheduled to proceed only if specific weather conditions are met to ensure safety and effectiveness. Should these conditions not be favorable on the planned date, the prescribed burn will be postponed to a later date when conditions are suitable.

This proactive measure reflects the ongoing commitment of local authorities to safeguard both natural environments and community safety through careful and strategic ecological management.
