Broward Sheriff’s deputies bring public safety conversation directly to Tamarac neighborhood on September 2

Tamarac, Florida – For Tamarac residents who have wondered who patrols their neighborhood, or simply have a question they have never had the chance to ask, an upcoming community event is designed to make that conversation easier.

For one hour on Sept. 2, the setting will be less formal than a district office or public meeting. Local Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies will meet residents face to face at a busy neighborhood shopping center.

The City of Tamarac will host “Get to Know Your BSO” on Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Shoppes on University, 7501 NW 57th Street. The gathering is free, open to the public and does not require advance registration.

Deputies from the BSO Tamarac District will be available to answer questions about public safety, crime prevention and concerns residents may have about their neighborhoods. The event also gives community members an opportunity to learn how residents and law enforcement can work together on local safety issues.

“Have questions about public safety or crime prevention? Stop by and meet your local Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies, ask questions, and learn how we can work together to keep our community safe,” the city posted. “We look forward to seeing you there!”

The location puts the event in an everyday community setting. Shoppes on University sits on the east side of University Drive, just north of Commercial Boulevard, and includes a mix of stores and services that regularly bring residents through the area.

BSO provides contracted law-enforcement services for Tamarac, a western Broward County city with roughly 74,000 to 75,000 residents. The Tamarac District office is located at 7515 Pine Island Road, while the district’s non-emergency number is (954) 720-2225.

The Sept. 2 gathering continues BSO’s community-outreach efforts in the city. Similar informal events have included “Coffee with a Cop,” including a late-August gathering at a local coffee shop where residents could speak directly with deputies.

Residents attending “Get to Know Your BSO” are encouraged to bring specific public-safety or crime-prevention questions. Parking is available at the shopping center, and visitors can arrive at any point during the 5 to 6 p.m. event window.
