North Perry Airport opens its runway to runners for first-ever 5K in Hollywood on November 7
Hollywood, Florida – For one morning in November, part of North Perry Airport will trade aircraft traffic for running shoes. Participants will get the unusual chance to race on the runway during the first HWO 5K on the Runway — Walk, Run, Fly event.
The 5K is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026, at North Perry Airport in Hollywood, Florida. Hosted by Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis, the race is being organized in partnership with Split Second Timing and Wildside Online.
Race-day activity will begin well before the 7:30 a.m. start. Registration and packet pickup open at 6 a.m., giving runners and walkers time to check in before a scheduled warm-up at 7 a.m. The 5K will then begin at 7:30 a.m. EST.
Organizers are inviting participants to experience what is being promoted as the airport’s first 5K race on the runway. The event is open to people who want to run or walk the course, combining a traditional community race with a setting that most participants would not normally experience on foot.
The registration fee is listed at $30. Entry includes a race T-shirt, refreshments and an award or finisher medal. Participants can register online here.
Awards will be presented across several competitive categories. First-place Masters male and female winners will be recognized, along with the top three overall male and female participants. The event will also honor the top three male and female finishers in individual age groups.
With registration beginning at sunrise and the race starting at 7:30 a.m., the event is structured as an early-morning outing before the day gets underway.
Whether participants are chasing an overall award, competing within their age group or simply walking the route, the November race offers a different way to experience North Perry Airport. For a few miles, the runway will belong not to planes, but to the runners and walkers taking part in the inaugural event.
