Tamarac, Florida – The Broward Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the city of Tamarac, is hosting a crucial gun safety class designed for children aged 8–14 and their parents, emphasizing the importance of responsible handgun ownership and the dire consequences of failing to secure firearms properly. This initiative is a response to the alarming frequency with which children find unsecured handguns, resulting in accidents and tragedies across America.

Scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the session will be held at the Tamarac Recreation Center, located at 7501 North University Drive, Tamarac, FL 33321. Sheriff Gregory Tony stresses the importance of this educational event in helping to prevent potential tragedies by educating both parents and children on the critical aspects of gun safety.

The class is set to cover essential topics, including the best practices for securing and storing firearms and the fundamental principles of firearm safety. It aims to instill a sense of responsibility among handgun owners and provide them with the knowledge and tools necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms.

Participants will also benefit from refreshments and complimentary gun locks, underscoring the event’s commitment to practical safety measures. Given the limited seating, interested individuals are encouraged to secure their spots promptly.
