County leaders and neighbors join forces to face climate threats at free public gathering

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Broward County residents are encouraged to come to an upcoming public event that combines creativity, science, and community action to deal with the critical problems of climate change. The Resilient Environment Department and the Cultural Division will work together to present the Community Climate Conversation at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, July 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The purpose of the meeting is to get people engaged with the climate challenges confronting Broward County, especially flooding, rising temperatures, and sea level rise. It will also give them useful information about the county’s efforts to fight climate change. Attendees will hear about how climate change is already affecting neighborhoods around the region and look into solutions that will help them stay strong in the long term through an interactive style.
The Cortada Foundation is in charge of one of the main parts of the event, a creative workshop. Using art as a vehicle for conversation, the session will help residents better understand environmental challenges and think critically about their own role in addressing them. The idea is to make complicated scientific topics into conversations that people can understand and relate to.
Xavier Cortada, a well-known eco-artist from South Florida and member of the Florida Artists Hall of Fame, is scheduled to appear at the event. Cortada is known for combining art and activism to raise awareness about climate change and environmental justice. His work has been shown around the world, is expected that he will add a unique point of view to the discussion.
Attendees will be able to meet local leaders and community organizers, learn about current county projects, and find out how to become involved during the afternoon. The event will highlight both government actions and community-led efforts to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions and protect vulnerable areas. These efforts range from climate resilience strategies to grassroots solutions.
Organizers say the Community Climate Conversation is designed not just to inform, but to inspire. They hope the event will get more people involved and working together to fight climate change in Broward County, which is facing more and more threats.
This presentation is a chance to listen, think, and help shape a more resilient future for Broward County, whether you’re very involved in environmental advocacy or just starting to learn about climate concerns.
