Tallahassee, Florida – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced last week that the state’s Toll Relief Program, now in its second year, has successfully delivered the first month of toll relief to over 1.2 million SunPass customers. This initiative, introduced to help ease financial pressures on Florida’s commuters, has resulted in nearly $42 million in savings in just its first month this year.

Florida's Toll Relief Program delivers massive savings in just one month to over 1.2 million commuters

Launched in April for the second consecutive year, the program allows customers who make at least 35 toll transactions monthly to automatically receive a 50 percent credit on their accounts. This substantial reduction in commuting costs aims to mitigate the effects of ongoing economic challenges, such as high inflation.

A Year of Significant Savings

In 2023, the Toll Relief Program provided nearly $500 million in savings to its participants, averaging about $400 per person. The ongoing program is set to continue providing financial relief to drivers across the state until March 2025. Participants in the program can easily check which toll facilities are included by referring to a designated map provided by the state.

Governor DeSantis expressed pride in the program’s impact, stating, “In the first month of the program alone, we saved Florida commuters nearly $42 million. We are on track for another great year of significant relief for Florida commuters.” He emphasized the benefit to Florida families, enabling them to retain more of their hard-earned money during these financially challenging times.

Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez also highlighted the program’s success, noting that what began as the SunPass Savings Program has evolved into an even more impactful Toll Relief Program. This initiative underscores Florida’s commitment to providing direct, immediate relief to its residents.

Hassle-Free Enrollment and Future Prospects

The best part for Florida drivers? There is no need to apply for these savings. Any driver with a Florida-based transponder is automatically enrolled in the program, ensuring that all eligible commuters can benefit without any additional effort.
