Tamarac offers free haircut vouchers to help students return to school with confidence
Tamarac, Florida – A fresh haircut may seem like a small part of back-to-school preparation, but for many students, it can make the first walk through the classroom door feel very different.
In Tamarac, families now have a chance to check that expense off their list for free. Commissioner Kicia Daniel is offering haircut and hairstyle vouchers to eligible students from elementary school through high school while supplies remain.
The vouchers are available for pickup from August 3 through August 31, 2026, at Tamarac City Hall, located at 7525 NW 88th Ave. Distribution takes place Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Under the program, boys can receive a voucher valued at $30, while girls can receive a voucher valued at $50. The vouchers may only be used at salons and barbershops participating in the initiative.
Families do not need to choose a business before visiting City Hall. A list of participating salons and barbershops will be provided when the voucher is distributed, allowing parents or guardians to select a location and arrange an appointment afterward.
The process begins with an in-person visit to Tamarac City Hall during the designated distribution hours. Applicants will be asked to complete a brief registration form before receiving a numbered voucher.
Each eligible child may receive one voucher. Households are limited to no more than three vouchers, meaning a family with three qualifying students could receive one for each child. The program is open to students attending elementary, middle or high school.
After receiving the voucher and the list of participating businesses, families must contact their selected salon or barbershop directly to schedule the haircut or hairstyle appointment.
The giveaway arrives as families prepare for another school year and manage the combined cost of clothing, supplies and other necessities. By covering part of that preparation, the program is intended to help students return to school feeling ready and confident.
