Tax relief for Floridians: Governor DeSantis announces Freedom Month Summer Sales Tax Holiday

Tampa, Florida – In a significant move to ease the financial burden on families during the summer, Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the introduction of the Freedom Month Sales Tax Holiday as part of the budget for Fiscal Year 2024–25. This tax relief initiative will span the entire month of July, exempting various recreational and outdoor items from sales tax, and is set to provide substantial savings to Florida residents and visitors.

Enhancing Summer Affordability

Governor DeSantis emphasized the state’s proactive steps to make summer more accessible and affordable for families. “Florida is stepping up to make summer more affordable for families,” DeSantis stated.

He pointed out the contrast with the federal government’s role in the current economic strain faced by families due to high inflation and rising costs. According to him, “Florida’s smart fiscal policies allow us to reduce taxes and help reduce the burden on Floridians.”

As part of the initiative, the sales tax will be removed from a wide range of popular summer items. Families looking forward to enjoying Florida’s outdoors can purchase boating and water activity supplies like snorkels, pool toys, and kayaks, as well as fishing and camping gear, at reduced costs.

Free Access to State Parks

To mark the beginning of the summer season, Governor DeSantis announced that admission to all Florida State Parks will be waived for everyone on Memorial Day weekend, from May 24-27, 2024. This gesture is intended to invite families to explore the natural beauty and recreational opportunities that Florida’s 175 award-winning state parks have to offer.
