Broward County drivers face weeks of traffic changes as guardrail replacement project begins October 12

Broward County, Florida – Broward County is preparing to begin a road improvement project along NW 31st Avenue, bringing several weeks of construction activity and temporary traffic changes to a section of the Broward Municipal Services District.
The work will start Monday, October 12, and is expected to continue through December 2026. While drivers may encounter occasional lane closures, county officials say access to driveways will remain available throughout construction.
The project focuses on upgrading guardrails along NW 31st Avenue between Sunrise Boulevard and Sistrunk Boulevard. Broward County’s Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division will oversee the improvements, which are part of the county’s ongoing responsibility for maintaining roadway infrastructure.
Construction will affect both motorists and pedestrians, although the county has outlined measures to keep the area accessible while crews complete the work.
During construction, one travel lane will be temporarily closed during off-peak hours. These restrictions will allow workers to carry out the guardrail improvements while keeping the remaining portion of the roadway available for traffic.
Pedestrians traveling through affected sections will also need to make temporary adjustments. Those whose usual walking routes are disrupted will be directed to sidewalks across from the construction zone.
One important detail for nearby property owners is that driveway access will not be eliminated during the project. The county has confirmed that access will be maintained throughout the construction period, even as work progresses along the corridor.
The improvements are funded through gas tax revenue rather than a separately announced funding source. The construction area falls within Broward County Commission District 8, represented by Vice Mayor Robert McKinzie.
Although the county expects the improvements to be completed in December, that timeline could change. Unforeseen construction conditions or weather-related delays may affect the schedule.
Residents who have questions about the project, temporary traffic restrictions or construction activities can contact Broward County’s Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division at (954) 357-6040.
Project Manager Erick Pena-Tabora can also be reached directly at (786) 296-7102 or by email at [email protected].
Additional information about the area is available through the county’s Broward Municipal Services District website.
Broward County is asking residents, pedestrians and motorists for patience as crews complete the improvements along NW 31st Avenue over the coming weeks.
