Construction begins between Pines Boulevard and Taft Street as Broward County upgrades curb ramps and repairs aging sidewalks on Douglas Road

Pembroke Pines, Florida – Drivers and pedestrians on Douglas Road in Pembroke Pines will soon see construction work as Broward County starts a long-term project to make the sidewalks better.

The work officially began on February 24 and will focus on fixing existing sidewalks and making pedestrian curb ramps between Pines Boulevard and Taft Street more accessible to those with disabilities.

The Broward County Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division is in charge of the project, and gas tax money provides funding for it. The crews will focus on fixing up worn-out parts of the sidewalk and making sure that curb ramps satisfy accessibility regulations. This will make it safer and easier for people who walk, ride, or use mobility equipment to get around this busy route.

The work is anticipated to go on until December 2026, but the schedule could change if the weather changes or if problems come up that weren’t expected. Officials said that even with the longer schedule, the effect on everyday traffic should still be small. During the repair, one lane going north and one lane going south will stay open to cars. This will help keep traffic moving normally on Douglas Road.

While the work is going on, people will still be able to go to their homes, businesses, driveways, and walkways. County officials stressed that the goal is to finish the upgrades with as minimal impact on the community as possible.

The county has asked people to be patient while the upgrades are being made. Officials say that the changes are necessary maintenance that will make the infrastructure last longer and make it easier for people to walk along the route.
