Fort Lauderdale begins major upgrades to Galt Ocean Drive parking lots starting August 18

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – As part of a larger plan to make public infrastructure and access better, crews are getting ready to start a series of upgrades to two parking lots along Galt Ocean Drive in Fort Lauderdale. The City of Fort Lauderdale has teamed up with Contractors Services Unlimited to carry out the project, which targets the lots located at NE 36th Street and NE 35th Street.

Construction is scheduled to start the week of August 18, 2025, and is expected to wrap up by the end of December. Work will take place on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To minimize inconvenience for drivers, any work that could disrupt access to parking spaces will be limited to evening hours outside of peak use. No overnight construction is planned.

The project includes milling and resurfacing the lots, making the ramps more accessible to those with disabilities, improving the lighting, and placing in charge stations for electric cars. Also, the drainage system in the south lot will be improved, which is very important for keeping water from gathering and causing damage during heavy rains.

City officials have made it clear that traffic on Galt Ocean Drive will not be affected by the upgrades, even though they will make these popular beachside facilities much better. During the construction time, drivers are advised to stay vigilant and follow any signs that are up to keep both workers and drivers safe.
