Henry E. Kinney Tunnel northbound to close for system testing on February 18

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Fort Lauderdale’s drivers should get ready for traffic changes since the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel’s northbound section will be fully closed for system testing. The closure is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18, starting at 9 p.m. and will last until 4 a.m. the following morning.

This temporary closure is necessary so the contractor may carry required tests meant to improve the functionality of the tunnel. Drivers who normally head northbound through the tunnel at these hours will thus have to look for other routes.

Officials will establish a detour to lead drivers around the closing. The advised other route calls for rerouting via SR 842/Broward Boulevard, SE 7th Street, SE 3rd Avenue. Appropriate signage will be positioned along the detour to help drivers navigating it.

Authorities are encouraging drivers to arrange trips keeping this closure in mind during these hours. It is advised of commuters to let more time for travel and to be patient throughout the diversion. The actions carried out during this period are part of continuous enhancements meant to guarantee the efficiency and safety of the tunnel operations.
