Pompano Beach City Commission changes venue plan to expand access to budget debate

Pompano Beach, Florida – A change of rooms may sound minor, but for Pompano Beach residents following how the city plans to spend public money, it means the entire conversation will now be easier to watch.

The City Commission’s budget workshop on Monday, July 20, will remain inside City Commission Chambers from beginning to end, allowing the full meeting, including the detailed discussion among commissioners, to be livestreamed.

The workshop will start at 9 a.m. at City Commission Chambers, located at 100 West Atlantic Boulevard. City staff will open the meeting by presenting the recommended budget for Fiscal Year 2027, laying out the financial plan that will guide city services, projects and spending during the coming year.

Once the presentation is complete, members of the public will have an opportunity to provide input. The City Commission will then begin its discussion of the proposed budget and related financial items.

An earlier city announcement stated that the workshop’s discussion portion would move to the Cultural Center following the initial presentation and public comments. That arrangement has now been changed.

During its most recent meeting, the City Commission voted to hold the remainder of the workshop in the commission chambers instead. Keeping the full session in one location ensures residents who cannot attend in person will still be able to follow the entire workshop through the city’s livestream.

The discussion is expected to cover several decisions that can directly affect residents, property owners and future city development. Commissioners will review the recommended millage rates for Fiscal Year 2027, which are used to calculate city property taxes.

The workshop will also include discussion of capital improvement projects, fire assessment fees and departmental budgets. Capital projects may involve long-term investments in public facilities and infrastructure, while the proposed fees and budgets will help determine how services are funded in the next fiscal year.

No other changes to the workshop schedule were announced. The presentation, public comment period and commission discussion will all take place at 100 West Atlantic Boulevard beginning at 9 a.m.

By keeping the meeting in the chambers, the city is giving the public one continuous view of the budget process, from the staff presentation and residents’ comments to the commission’s questions and debate over Pompano Beach’s Fiscal Year 2027 priorities.
