Some Fort Lauderdale residents may notice temporary tap water color change during essential maintenance

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Beginning Monday, April 14, residents in certain Fort Lauderdale areas could see a little color shift in their tap water. Due to necessary repair work being done at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club wellfield, this temporary modification is anticipated to last until Sunday, April 20.

The maintenance is part of regular inspections and improvements meant to guarantee the ongoing safety and efficiency of the city’s water supply systems. The Peele-Dixie Water Treatment Plant, which usually services the areas south of Broward Boulevard, will be temporarily closed during the construction phase.

The interruption will cause water supply to these locations to be redirected from the Fiveash Water Treatment Plant. Unlike the sophisticated reverse osmosis technique utilized at Peele-Dixie, the Fiveash facility uses a different water treatment process called lime softening. The anticipated shift in water color results from this variation in treatment procedures.

City authorities want to reassure that, despite the color change, the water will stay safe to consume and still satisfies the basic drinking water criteria. The differing treatment techniques are what cause the visual shift; it has no impact on the quality of the water.
