New infrastructure project in Oakland Park promises safer streets, improved public transit access, and upgraded pedestrian pathways by summer 2025

Broward County, Florida – Beginning April 7, the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division, working with the Highway Construction and Engineering Division, will launch an extensive improvement project that will significantly improve the transit and pedestrian infrastructure of the Oakland Park area. Aiming to simplify traffic and boost safety for both cars and pedestrians, the project will extend from NW 33rd Court to NW 35th Street along NW 21st Avenue.

The project’s scope includes various vital developments funded by gas tax income. Removal and relocation of an existing bus stop to a more strategic site will be one of the main adjustments, which should enhance the flow and efficiency of public transit in the region. The proposal also calls for the placement of two traffic separators helping to better control car traffic, hence guaranteeing a safer and more organized travel experience for all.

The resurfacing of the impacted road is another important feature of the project. This not only seeks to improve the visual attractiveness of the neighborhood but also helps to promote safer drives, thereby helping regular commuters as well as infrequent visitors.

To reduce disturbance to the everyday routines of local residents and companies, construction has been planned for non-peak hours, from 9 AM to 4 PM. Despite the building, at least one lane will be open northbound and southbound, thereby maintaining traffic flow in both directions. Access to driveways and sidewalks will also be maintained during the project, therefore guaranteeing no impediment to pedestrian traffic.

Variable message signs will be placed in the region to give current updates and guidance to cars and pedestrians, hence keeping the public informed and helping to control traffic. This initiative is part of a larger campaign to make sure the building work disturbs the public as least as possible.
