Tamarac offers residents a no-cost chance to check for cancer risks and key health warning signs in July and September

Tamarac, Florida – A few minutes at a community center could become an important step toward catching a serious health problem early.

Tamarac residents will have two chances this summer to access free cancer and wellness screenings, bringing preventive care into a familiar local setting instead of a hospital or clinic.

The screenings will be offered through a partnership with the University of Miami Health System’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The first event is scheduled for Monday, July 13, followed by a second session on Thursday, September 3. Both will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center, located at 8601 W. Commercial Blvd.

Several types of cancer screening will be available. Eligible participants may be screened for cervical cancer, colorectal cancer and prostate cancer. Hepatitis C screening will also be offered.

The event goes beyond cancer checks. Residents can receive basic health screenings that measure body mass index, blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol. Together, those numbers can provide a broader picture of a person’s health and may help identify concerns that deserve further attention.

Not every screening will be available to every visitor. Participation will depend on eligibility requirements tied to age and individual risk factors. That means the services offered may vary from person to person based on health history and other qualifying details.

The location and format make preventive care easier to reach. Instead of requiring residents to travel far or navigate a complicated medical setting, the screenings will take place inside the Tamarac Community Center during a four-hour window on each date.

For people who have delayed a screening because of cost, limited access or a busy schedule, the event offers a practical opportunity to begin. It also gives residents a chance to check several common health indicators during one visit.

The July session arrives in the middle of summer, while the September date provides another opportunity for those who cannot attend the first event. With two separate days on the calendar, residents have greater flexibility to take part.

Early awareness can begin with a simple screening, a blood pressure reading or a conversation about risk. Tamarac’s free events place those first steps close to home, with no charge for eligible participants.

Residents planning to attend should keep the dates, times and eligibility rules in mind. The screenings will be held Monday, July 13, and Thursday, September 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W. Commercial Blvd.
