Broward County launches long-term road drainage upgrade to reduce neighborhood flooding in Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale, Florida – A long-term project to fix the drainage along NW 7th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale will start soon. The goal is to make the roads better and cut down on floods in the neighborhood. The Broward County Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division said that construction will start on Wednesday, November 12, and go on until August 10, 2026, weather permitting. Gas tax money pays for the project.
The crews will work on fixing and improving the underground drainage system that stretches between Broward Boulevard and Sunrise Boulevard. The changes are meant to make the water flow better during heavy rain, which has often caused standing water and traffic problems in the area.
Construction will happen at night to keep things from getting too busy. During the whole project, one lane in each direction will stay available. This will let cars pass safely while work is going on. But some side streets will be closed for a short time—usually one to two days—so that crews may finish parts of the drainage system.

Drivers will be shown how to get around active work zones, and various message boards will be put up to warn both drivers and pedestrians about changes that are coming. Even while construction is still going on, people will still be able to get to surrounding driveways and walkways. This will make sure that residences and businesses along NW 7th Avenue can still get in.
