Broward schools extend School Choice deadline to Jan. 28 for 2026/27 applications

Broward County, Florida – Families in Broward County who are planning for the 2026/27 school year now have more time to think about their school options. Broward County Public Schools announced that the School Choice application period will stretch until the new year, providing parents and guardians more time to finish the process.
The new deadline for applications is Wednesday, January 28, 2026. During this time, families can apply for magnet programs, Nova schools, and school reassignment, which lets students go to a school that is not in their assigned boundary. District officials said the extension is meant to give families enough time to look over the programs and send in correct applications.
BCPS continues to emphasize its role as a national leader in offering a wide range of learning pathways. The district offers creative and individualized programs that are tailored to kids’ interests and help them get ready for college and careers in the long run. Families can look at programs that fit their child’s skills and educational goals through the School Choice process.
BCPS wants families to look over the application procedures and options online to help parents get ready. The district’s School Choice webpage at browardschools.com/schoolchoice has information about the programs and how to apply.
You need a student number to send in an application. Before their children can start going to Broward County Public Schools in the 2026/27 school year, families must first get a student number. Parents or guardians can do this by going to any school in the district in person. To verify, you need a government-issued photo ID and the child’s birth certificate.

Officials in the district want families to remember not to wait until the last minute to start the process because it can take time to get the paperwork together and go over the program’s requirements.
