Fort Lauderdale begins Cordova Road drainage upgrade to tackle flooding risks in Rio Vista

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Work is set to begin at the end of March on a targeted infrastructure upgrade along Cordova Road in Fort Lauderdale, where city officials are moving forward with improvements designed to strengthen the area’s stormwater system.

The effort, centered at 721 Cordova Road in the Rio Vista neighborhood, will be carried out by the City of Fort Lauderdale in coordination with Southeastern Engineering Contractors. The project focuses on upgrading key drainage components to better manage water flow and reduce the risk of localized flooding.

Plans call for the installation of approximately 175 feet of new 15-inch drainage pipe, along with the addition of a new catch basin and two storm manholes. These elements are intended to improve how stormwater is collected and directed through the system. Once the underground work is complete, crews will restore sections of asphalt and landscaping affected during construction, returning the area to its previous condition.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, March 30, 2026, and is expected to wrap up by Friday, April 10, 2026. Crews will operate on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., although the timeline may shift if weather conditions or unforeseen issues arise.

During active work hours, traffic along Cordova Road will be restricted. The stretch between Southeast 9th Street and Southeast 7th Street will remain accessible միայն to local traffic, while through traffic will be redirected to Ponce de Leon Drive. Traffic control personnel will be stationed near the work zone to guide drivers and maintain safe movement through the area.

Residents and motorists are advised to pay close attention to posted signage and proceed with caution while traveling nearby. While the temporary disruptions may affect daily routines, city officials emphasize that the improvements are aimed at delivering long-term benefits to the neighborhood’s infrastructure.
