Tamarac adds real-time inspector tracking to make permit day less of a waiting game

Tamarac, Florida – Waiting all day for a building inspector can turn a simple permit appointment into a guessing game. Tamarac is now giving residents a clearer view of when that knock on the door may come.

The city has launched real-time inspection tracking, allowing customers to see an estimated arrival time and follow the location of their assigned Building Department inspector on the day of a scheduled inspection.

The new feature is designed to make the inspection process easier to manage. Instead of being left with a broad window and little information, customers can receive a more precise estimate and monitor the inspector’s progress in real time.

That added visibility may be especially useful for homeowners, contractors and permit applicants trying to coordinate work at a property. Knowing when an inspector is expected can help customers plan their day and be ready when the inspection begins.

Tamarac has also expanded communication during the permitting process. Homeowners submitting new permit applications through the city’s Electronic Plan Review system will now receive notifications as those applications move through important stages.

The updates will show how a permit is progressing and identify moments when further action may be required. In some cases, that responsibility may fall to the permit applicant. In others, a contractor may need to respond or provide additional information before the application can move forward.

By sending those notices directly to homeowners, the city is creating another layer of transparency in a process that can involve several steps and multiple participants. The notifications are intended to help residents understand what is happening with their permit rather than leaving them to repeatedly check for changes.

Together, the inspection-tracking system and permit notifications represent a practical shift toward clearer, more convenient building services. One improvement focuses on the day an inspection takes place. The other keeps homeowners informed before that point, while their application is still being reviewed.

For Tamarac residents, the result is a permitting and inspection process with fewer unknowns and more timely information. Customers can learn more about the new services and access Building Department resources at Tamarac.gov/Building.
