Volunteers invited to make a difference at Broward County’s Shelter Shindig on April 19

Broward County, Florida – Broward County Animal Care is working with Pets Broward in an encouraging combination of community service and animal welfare to provide the first “Shelter Shindig” event. From 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, April 19, this event will take place at the Broward County Animal Care office at 2400 SW 42nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312.

The Shelter Shindig seeks to provide shelter dogs a day of pampering and attention, so transcending the daily care they get to giving them a spa-like experience. Not only about offering baths and brush-outs, this one-of-a-kind event honors the important role that volunteers play in the lives of the animals waiting for their permanent homes.

Doug Brightwell, Director of Broward County Animal Care, emphasized the importance of volunteerism in animal welfare.

“The Shelter Shindig is a meaningful expression of what happens when community and compassion come together,” said Doug Brightwell. “With the support of dedicated volunteers, we’re able to enrich the lives of our shelter pets while showcasing how residents can get involved in life-saving work. It’s a hands-on way to experience the difference volunteers make every single day at our shelter.”

From the calming fundamentals of grooming to the pleasures of dog walking and making enrichment items that excite the pets both mentally and physically, volunteers at the event will have the chance to participate in many activities. These activities not only enhance the animals’ quality of life but also provide potential adopters a look at the animals at their best—happy, healthy, and well-cared-for.

Meredith Bruder, Founder and Director of Pets Broward, highlighted the collaborative nature of the event.

“Pets Broward is proud to partner with Broward County Animal Care for the Shelter Shindig,” said Meredith Bruder.

“Collaborative events like these are essential to building a compassionate, no-kill community. Nothing brightens the day for these homeless pets like the kind touch or loving voice of someone that cares about them.  All they want is some of your time, and hopefully one day soon, a home of their own.”

Free and accessible to the public, the event provides an ideal platform for community members to learn more about animal welfare, consider adopting, or start their path as volunteers. This gathering is more than just a fun day out; it’s an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of animals and maybe find a new furry buddy to take home.
