Broward County teams up with Petco Love and shelters statewide for a mega adoption push

Davie, Florida – Broward County is getting ready for the return of one of Florida’s biggest animal adoption events. The stakes are high for both pets and shelters. The Animal Care division is working with Parks and Recreation, the non-profit Petco Love, and dozens of other animal welfare groups from across the state this year. Their goal is to find loving homes for 2,000 dogs and cats.

Tree Tops Park in Davie will be the main emphasis on Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The beautiful park will turn into a busy adoption event, where 60 dogs from Broward County Animal Care will be available for adoption right away. There are still tiny pet registration fees, though, even though the adoption fees are being waived for this event. Microchipped pets pay $25, while pets that aren’t microchipped cost $55. Visitors will also have to pay the regular $3 cost for each car that enters the park.

If you love animals and are thinking about getting a pet, now is the perfect time. Shelters throughout South Florida are full, and it’s more important than ever to find these animals permanent homes.

“Our shelters are at a tipping point,” explained Doug Brightwell, Broward County Animal Care Director. “That’s why Animal Care is proud to join this powerful coalition – to relieve overwhelmed shelters, give deserving pets a second chance, and help families across our region grow through adoption.”

The Mega Adoption Event isn’t just about finding homes; it’s also about making relationships and making the area more pet-friendly and compassionate. Parks and Recreation Director Dan West sees it as a natural fit.

“Pets and parks reduce stress and anxiety and encourage an active, healthy lifestyle that includes social interaction among dog lovers and owners, building a sense of community. After your adoption, we hope you and your new pet will visit Tree Tops Park or one of our other regional parks that allow dogs on six-foot leashes or to our leash-free dog parks at Markham Park and Quiet Waters,” ” said Dan West, Broward County Parks and Recreation Director.

Last year’s celebration raised the benchmark, as almost 2,000 animals were adopted across Florida. This year, approximately 50 groups from 31 counties are working together to make an even bigger difference. Families can feel even better knowing that every pet that finds a home at the event will already be spayed or neutered and up to date on their immunizations.

“There is nothing more powerful than the moment a shelter pet meets their new family and that’s the heart of this incredible statewide event,” said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. “By uniting animal welfare organizations across Florida, we’re not only finding homes for pets, we’re creating thousands of new beginnings filled with hope, healing, and unconditional love. That’s the power of community, and that’s the power of love.”
