Tamarac to open applications for 2025 owner occupied minor home repair program on August 18

Tamarac, Florida – Tamarac homeowners in need of essential home repairs will soon have the chance to apply for financial assistance through the city’s Owner-Occupied Minor Home Repair Program. The registration for the 2025 program will begin on Monday, August 18. It will stay open until the money runs out or the program year ends.

The goal of the program is to help qualified individuals make repairs that are needed to make their homes safer, bring them up to code, and make them last longer. Assistance comes in the form of a fifteen-year, 0% interest, deferred payment second mortgage. If homeowners stay in their homes for the full fifteen years, they won’t have to make any loan payments.

The initiative includes a number of modifications, including as putting in impact windows and doors, replacing roofs, fixing electrical and plumbing problems, bringing everything up to code, and replacing HVAC systems. But it’s vital to remember that the program won’t pay for repairs that were done before an application was submitted and accepted.

To be eligible, applicants must have an income that is below the 2025 Area Median Income (AMI) of $96,200 for Broward County. The amount of help you get depends on how much money you make. Households who make 50% or less of AMI may be able to get up to $85,000 in help. Households that make up to 80% of AMI may be able to get up to $75,000. Households that make more than 80% of AMI but less than 120% of AMI may be able to get up to $40,000. People with moderate incomes have fewer options for getting money.

You must also own and live in the property as your principal home, keep your homestead status, and have the property within the municipal borders of Tamarac. Before getting help, applicants must also let the Housing Department check their income and assets and sign loan forms.

Applications for the 2025 cycle will be accepted online through the city’s website. People who applied last year but didn’t get help will have to apply again during this time.
