Morning run at Broward County Animal Care turns into moving adoption event spotlighting shelter dogs through Broward Buddies program
Fort Lauderdale, Florida – A different kind of starting line will form in Fort Lauderdale later this month — one with wagging tails, eager runners, and a shared purpose.
On Saturday, February 28, at 9 a.m., Broward County Animal Care and the Hollywood Run Club will put on “Pace with Pups,” a fun community run to show off shelter pups that are available for adoption. The event will be held at Broward County Animal Care, which is located at 2400 SW 42nd Street.
Participants will not be running alone. Volunteers and members of the run club will take dogs in Animal Care’s Broward Buddies program on a short walk to get more people to see them and get them interested in adopting them.

The idea is simple: offer shelter dogs fresh air, an opportunity to connect with people in a pleasant way, and a chance to be seen by families who might want to adopt them. At the end of the race, each dog that took part will get a special treat – a well-deserved pup cup.

With the Broward Buddies micro-foster program, residents can spend a few hours with certain shelter dogs and take them to places in the county that are good for pets. These trips let dogs relax outside of the shelter and provide them a chance to meet new people. The experience can make a big impact by letting dogs show who they are and giving them a better chance of finding a permanent home.
The Hollywood Run Club is known for encouraging teamwork, service, and healthy living. They are bringing their enthusiasm and sense of community to the relationship.
Organizers say that the partnership shows how working together, even on something as basic as a morning run, may help animals that are waiting for a second chance.

Animal Care Director Doug Brightwell talked about how important partnerships are for helping pets in shelters. He said that community-driven programs like Broward Buddies let people help dogs move from the shelter to loving homes in a direct way.
