Broward County, Florida – Broward County is gearing up for a festive July 4th, with several changes to the regular operational schedule of county services due to the Independence Day holiday. Residents can expect closures and adjusted services across various county departments, although many essential services will remain available.

County Services and Operations

Most county governmental offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4th. Despite these closures, residents will still have access to numerous online services at Broward.org. Notably, the 311 Call Center will not operate on the holiday, and the Homeless Helpline will offer after-hours support from 10 PM to 2 AM at 954-563-4357.

All Broward County Library branches will be closed except for the NSU-Alvin Sherman Library, which will operate from 7 AM to 11 PM. Patrons can still access library resources online 24/7 to search the catalog, place holds, renew materials, and download various digital media.

In the spirit of July as Park and Recreation Month, Broward County parks will remain open, though Deerfield Island Park and Secret Woods Nature Center will be exceptions. Administrative offices in these parks will be closed, and the Summer Recreation Program will pause for the day. However, the regional park holiday gate fee will be waived, though shelter and rental hall fees will still apply.

Transportation Adjustments

Broward County Transit will run on a Sunday holiday service schedule. Customer service will be available from 8:30 AM to 4:45 PM for bus service and paratransit-tops assistance at 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302). Staff will be present at Broward County Transit’s Main Terminal and the Lauderhill Transit Center, but the Northeast Transit Center in Pompano Beach will be closed, and there will be no Express and Breeze bus service.

Port and Airport Operations

While administrative offices at Broward’s Port Everglades will be closed, the building will remain open for tenants, and marine services will continue as usual. The administrative offices at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and North Perry Airport will also be closed, but both airports will operate normally, with staff available for calls regarding airport-related questions.

Special Services and Emergency Care

The Office of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services and the Nancy J. Cotterman Center will keep their emergency services available 24/7. The Broward Addiction Recovery Center will require appointments for all services, including detoxification, though residential services will continue without visitation.

Broward County Animal Care will be closed, but emergency services for situations such as animal attacks or bites will still be accessible by calling 911. For non-emergency situations involving animals, residents are advised to call starting Tuesday following the holiday.
