Broward County announces holiday office closures and service changes for the Independence Day weekend
Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Broward County has released its schedule of office closures and service changes for the Independence Day holiday, informing residents which government facilities will be closed and which essential services will continue operating during the holiday weekend.
County governmental offices will close on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. Even though many administrative offices will not be open, officials said numerous online services will remain available through Broward.org, allowing residents to access information and complete many transactions remotely.
Several departments and public facilities will continue operating with modified schedules, while emergency and critical public safety services will remain available around the clock.
Libraries, parks, and transit adjust holiday schedules
The Broward County 311 Call Center will be closed on Friday. The Homeless Helpline will also close, although after-hours assistance will still be available from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. by calling 954-563-4357.
Broward County Library branches will remain open on Friday, July 3, before closing on Saturday, July 4. Residents will still be able to use the library’s online services throughout the holiday, including searching the catalog, renewing materials, placing holds, and accessing digital books, movies, music, magazines, and mobile applications.
Most Broward County parks, neighborhood parks, specialty parks, nature centers, and natural areas will remain open throughout the holiday weekend.
On Friday, Parks Administrative Offices and after-school programs at neighborhood parks will be closed. On Saturday, nearly all park facilities will remain open, although the Marine Environmental Education Center will be closed and the Markham Park Target Range will operate with reduced hours from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners has also waived regional park gate fees on Saturday in recognition of July as Park and Recreation Month. Officials noted that holiday shelter and rental hall fees will still apply.
Broward County Transit will maintain its regular weekday schedule on Friday. Customer service staff will be available at the Main Terminal in downtown Fort Lauderdale and the Lauderhill Transit Center from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m., while the Northeast Transit Center in Pompano Beach will operate from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
On Saturday, transit services will follow the Sunday holiday schedule. The Main Terminal and Lauderhill Transit Center will remain staffed from 8:45 a.m. until 4:45 p.m., while the Northeast Transit Center will be closed. Telephone customer support for bus and paratransit services will continue operating 24 hours a day.
Airports, ports, and emergency services continue operating
Although administrative offices at Port Everglades will be closed, marine operations will continue without interruption throughout the holiday. The port building will also remain open during normal business hours for tenants.
Administrative offices at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and North Perry Airport will also close for the holiday, but both airports will continue normal daily operations. Airport information lines will remain staffed around the clock.
Broward County Animal Care offices will close on Friday. Residents experiencing emergencies involving animal attacks, bites, injured animals, or situations requiring police assistance should call 911. Non-emergency services will resume Saturday morning.
The Office of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services will close its administrative offices, but all family and professional services will remain available 24 hours a day.
The Broward Addiction Recovery Center will continue providing admissions and medical detoxification services throughout the holiday. While administrative and outpatient offices will close, emergency triage services will remain available at all times. Residential services will also continue, although visitation will not be permitted.
The Nancy J. Cotterman Center will continue accepting emergency referrals for its Crisis Unit and Child Protection Team throughout the holiday while keeping its administrative offices closed.
Residents living within the Broward Municipal Services District will receive garbage, recycling, and bulk waste collection according to the normal schedule. Residents in other municipalities are encouraged to check directly with their city or waste collection provider for any schedule changes.
The Broward County Landfill will operate from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday before closing on Saturday for the Independence Day holiday.
County officials encourage residents to review operating hours before traveling during the holiday weekend and to take advantage of online resources and emergency services that will remain available while many government offices are closed.
