Broward summit puts spotlight on how traffickers target kids through games and social media

Tamarac, Florida – This month, the Broward Human Trafficking Coalition will hold a free community summit to discuss how to keep kids safe from online exploitation and the growing risks of using the internet and gaming platforms.
The 2026 Anti-Human Trafficking Summit will take place on Saturday, January 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center in Tamarac.
Organizers say the event is meant to talk about how traffickers are using digital areas more and more to find and control young people. Predators can use social media, chat rooms, and online games to hide their identities and get to know people.
This makes education and prevention more important than ever. The main goal of the summit is to give young people real-world techniques to spot danger, stay safe online, and ask for help when they feel like something is wrong.
The event is being held to raise awareness about human trafficking. It will feature guest speakers, local groups, and survivor advocates who will talk about how trafficking happens in the real world and how it can be stopped. Survivor stories will be a big part of the event, helping people learn about the methods traffickers utilize and the long-term effects of exploitation.
During the five-hour, in-person workshop, participants will take part in conversations and lessons that are participatory and cover topics like how to spot indications of trafficking, how to stay safe online, and how to report suspicious conduct. Community groups will additionally inform victims and their families about the support options that are available to them.

Youth participation is strongly encouraged, and registration is required for young attendees. Adults don’t have to sign up to attend. Coalition officials stress that giving young people awareness is one of the best ways to protect them from being taken advantage of, especially because online interactions are becoming more common.
The summit’s organizers hope that by bringing together education, awareness, and preventive initiatives, they can make the community better able to deal with human trafficking and help make the internet safer for kids and teens in Broward County.
