Fort Lauderdale issues project update on NE 12th Street extension project

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – In a major road construction project spanning NE 12th Street, from NE 5th Avenue to NE 6th Avenue in the Middle River Terrace area, the local government has teamed up with FG Construction, LLC in an important move to improve the connectivity and infrastructure of Fort Lauderdale. By building two missing sections, this project seeks to close gaps in the current road system thereby generating a continuous and effective traffic flow.

Additionally included in the project are several more important enhancements meant to increase community convenience and safety. The movement of a fire hydrant currently located at the northeast corner of NE 5th Terrace and NE 12th Street is essential for the project since it is expected to improve emergency response capacity in the surrounding neighborhood. The project will additionally protect already-existing subterranean infrastructure vital for the operation of the area.

New sidewalks are being built along this length help to increase pedestrian access. The installation of curb and gutter systems is also underway, which will significantly enhance stormwater management, reducing the likelihood of flooding during heavy rains. New pavement markings and a fresh coating of asphalt are also being added to guarantee improved visibility and safety for pedestrians and automobiles.

This large-scale project is funded from a Community Development Block Grant, a government initiative run by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This initiative is meant to assist in efforts meant to strengthen, more resilient communities.

Construction kicked off on February 17, 2025, and is scheduled to wrap up by late March. Though this timetable may be changed depending on bad weather or other unanticipated events, the work occurs weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

As of now, plans call for adding the second layer on March 21; the construction team has effectively applied the first layer as of March 13. The city intends to honor the completion of these enhancements with a ribbon-cutting event; specifics of which will soon be shared with the local residents.

About traffic effects, the project is supposed to create very little disturbance. On site to guide vehicles, traffic control staff guarantees smooth movement around the building area and safety. Drivers should use caution in the area and pay attention to posted signs advised for local residents and commuters.

The city and the building crew appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this time and are dedicated to cause as least possible disturbance.

This project not only shows an enormous boost in urban infrastructure but also shows the city’s commitment to improve the quality of life for its citizens through careful planning and community-oriented projects.
