As spring break approaches, Governor Ron DeSantis has taken proactive measures to ensure that Florida remains a safe destination for residents and visitors alike. In a significant move to maintain law and order during one of the busiest tourist seasons, Florida is boosting its law enforcement presence across the state, particularly in popular spring break hotspots such as Miami Beach, Daytona Beach, and Panama City Beach.

Ensuring Safety and Order

“Florida may be popular for spring break, but it is inhospitable to criminal activity,” Governor Ron DeSantis emphasized. He further clarified the state’s stance on lawlessness and chaos, affirming, “Florida does not tolerate lawlessness and chaos. I am directing state law enforcement agencies to provide additional personnel and assets to local entities to ensure that they have the resources they need to keep the peace over spring break.”

This surge involves the deployment of manpower and tactical assets from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), reinforcing the state’s commitment to being a law-and-order state. Dave Kerner, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Executive Director, highlighted the state’s popularity as a top US destination and its commitment to safety under Governor DeSantis’s leadership.

Mark Glass, FDLE Commissioner, expressed gratitude for living in a state with unmatched natural beauty and reassured that the FDLE would work diligently during the spring break season to support local agencies. This includes quick mobilization of resources, conducting investigations, and providing analytical research to prevent the chaos seen in other states.

Strategic Deployment and Safety Measures

Earlier this year, at Governor DeSantis’s direction, the Florida Highway Patrol issued a memo to law enforcement across the state offering assistance to those requiring an increased enforcement presence. This resulted in 17 law enforcement agencies requesting a total of 140 state troopers to aid in managing the spring break influx. Additionally, FHP will activate 24 Quick Response Troopers in Bay, Volusia, Broward, and Dade counties for immediate incident response.

In Miami Beach, specific enforcement strategies have been outlined to ensure public safety. These include implementing curfews, conducting security searches, bag checks, and enforcing early beach closures. Law enforcement officers will be highly visible, patrolling in various modes such as vehicles, ATVs, bicycles, and on foot. To further enhance security, barricades, DUI checkpoints, and parking and lane closures will be in place.

Through these comprehensive measures, Florida aims to provide a safe and enjoyable spring break experience, underscoring the state’s commitment to upholding law and order while accommodating the surge in tourism demand.
