Florida – Governor Ron DeSantis has issued a directive to fly the flags of the United States and the State of Florida at half-staff on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. This gesture is in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, which pays tribute to the local, state, and federal officers who have died or become disabled in the line of duty.
A Day of Remembrance
“On May 15, we pay tribute to those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the safety and freedoms of Floridians,” Governor DeSantis stated. Peace Officers Memorial Day was established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating this day and National Police Week. “We will never forget the enduring legacy of law enforcement heroes,” DeSantis emphasized.
