Florida – Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is set to host a significant gathering next week in Florida, where major donors will meet and mingle with key figures in the Republican Party, many of whom are viewed as potential vice-presidential candidates. This event marks an important moment in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.
Gathering the GOP’s Finest
The donor retreat, scheduled for May 3-5 in Palm Beach, will feature an impressive roster of prominent Republicans. According to an invitation obtained by Politico, attendees will include Senators Marco Rubio of Florida, Tim Scott of South Carolina, J.D. Vance of Ohio, Governors Doug Burgum of North Dakota, Kristi Noem of South Dakota, and Representatives Elise Stefanik of New York and Byron Donalds of Florida.
These individuals are among the top contenders being considered for Trump’s running mate in the upcoming general election.
Despite the former president’s recent involvement in a hush money trial in New York, which has confined him to the city with limited breaks, he is listed as a special guest and is expected to make an appearance, trial schedule permitting. The trial, which involves Trump attending sessions when not in session over weekends and Wednesdays, is expected to continue for at least six weeks.
A Broader GOP Showcase
In addition to the potential VP candidates, the retreat will also host other high-profile, Trump-aligned Republicans. These include House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senators Rick Scott of Florida and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Representatives Jim Banks of Indiana and Wesley Hunt of Texas, Senate candidates Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania and Bernie Moreno of Ohio, and former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway. The invitation hints at “additional special guests,” suggesting more notable figures may join the event.
The event is exclusive to current donors who are part of the Trump operation. Following Trump’s designation as the presumptive GOP nominee last month, his campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) formed a joint fundraising committee, capable of accepting contributions up to $814,600 per person. Approximately 400 donors are anticipated to attend, reflecting significant support and interest in Trump’s campaign strategies.
Vice President Auditions in Full Swing
This retreat serves as a continuation of what some insiders are calling “de facto vice president tryouts.” Many of the invited guests have actively supported Trump during the primaries and have appeared at key events such as the Conservative Political Action Conference in February.

Behind the scenes, Trump has been consulting with allies and advisors about his choices for a running mate, maintaining close relationships with several potential picks like Stefanik and Vance. He has also been seen on the campaign trail with Noem, Burgum, and Scott, who have publicly endorsed him after withdrawing their own primary bids.
Despite the speculation and the gathering of many likely candidates, sources close to Trump suggest that he has not yet narrowed down his list of potential vice-presidential picks. The decision is not expected until closer to the Republican National Convention scheduled for mid-July in Milwaukee, leaving the political community and observers in suspense as they watch how Trump’s VP field shapes up in the coming months.
